Home Game! British Champs 2016: UKRDA Tier 2: Bristol Roller Derby A vs London Rockin Rollers

Tier 2 National South – what a season it has been! With the final triple-header left to play on August 7th – it is still all to play for. Click here to get your tickets!
How the Tier works:

The teams that finish 1st and 2nd will go through to playoffs to compete for promotion to the Premier Tier 1, while the teams that finish 5th and 6th will automatically be relegated to Tier 3.

So here is how it stands after 4 rounds:

London Rockin’ Rollers (LRR) are currently leading the Tier with 4 wins and 0 losses, and so they are guaranteed a top 2 finish and a place at playoffs. However, LRR’s final game is against Bristol Roller Derby (BRD) who are currently second in the Tier with 3 wins and 1 loss. If LRR wins this game they will qualify for playoffs in first place, whereas if BRD win they will take the title, because they will match LRR for wins but will have superior points difference. Qualifying in 1st or 2nd place will have an impact on who the teams play against at playoffs, and so expect fierce competition for that number 1 spot.

Big Bucks High Rollers (BBHR) are currently sitting in 3rd place with 2 wins and 2 losses. Technically, if BBHR win their final game against Croydon Roller Derby (CRD – who are currently 6th) and LRR beat BRD, there is an outside chance that BBHR will take 2nd place. However, the points difference between the two teams is currently 1116 points – so both teams would have to win by very big margins in order for this to happen. On the flipside, there is still a chance that BBHR can be relegated, because their points difference is the lowest out of all 6 teams, and so if CRD beat BBHR, then BBHR will automatically end up in the bottom two. Similarly, if CRD lose, they will be in the bottom two. Therefore, this is a must win game for both teams.

The final two teams facing off on August 7th are Portsmouth Roller Wenches (PRW) and South West Angels of Terror (SWAT), who are currently sat in 4th and 5th respectively. Both teams have 1 win and 3 losses, and both have better points differentials than BBHR and CRD. So whichever team wins this game will be safe in 3rd or 4th position. However, for the losing team this will mean a bottom two placing and relegation to Tier 3. So again, a must win game for both teams.
