I’ve never roller skated before, what should I expect?

If you have never skated before or are still mastering the basics of roller skating, stopping and turning – don’t worry! – our session helpers are there purely to make sure that you have help in feeling secure on your skates.

Before you are able to roller skate you will need to read through and sign a disclaimer acknowledging that you accept the risk when you strap wheels to your feet! Once you have given us your details and signed the form you’ll be able to take part in the sessions. We’ll teach you the basics of roller skating from how to fall safely through to skating stance and stops. Once you’ve mastered those you can start taking part in roller derby drills as the full-contact fun can begin!

I’ve played roller derby before and want to attend

What’s the relationship between Drop-in Derby and Bristol Roller Derby?

Drop-in Derby sessions is where we teach future Bristol Roller Derby skaters. Anyone interested in learning to play roller derby starts off at the Drop-in Derby sessions.

So does this mean I can go straight into a roller derby team?

When you are stable and safe you can check off your minimum skills, think of it like a driving license but for roller derby skaters. Once you have completed all of these then you will be eligible to join one of our teams. This usually takes 6-12 months.

I don’t want to playroller derby competitively, I just want to skate for fun!
